On the fringes of Hohe Tauern National Park, you will cycle along the banks of the Salzach River, with the Glockner-Kaprun reservoirs and the mighty Großglockner Mountain offering enticing detours along the way. Continue now in more leisurely fashion, to the reservoirs of the Pongau region's Salzach Power Stations and the beautiful bike paths which accompany them. The wild and romantic Liechtenstein Gorge, the "World of Ice Giants" - the world's biggest ice cave - and Hohenwerfen Castle, all are sights not to be missed! Then it's on past the romantic Golling Waterfalls to Hallein, a historic salt-mining town and site of ancient Celtic settlement. You simply have to take time out to visit the salt mine! You will then pedal on past Hellbrunn Palace as you head straight towards the world-famous Hohensalzburg Fortress. Hohensalzburg Fortress towers above Salzburg's historic Old Town, with its broad squares and winding lanes. The most beautiful views of all can be enjoyed on the banks of the Salzach right from the cycle path itself. Here, a newly constructed stage of the Tauern Cycle Path leads to the Saalach Valley Natural Wonders (Lamprecht's Cave, Seisenberg Gorge, …), before reaching the Zeller See and rejoining the Tauern Cycle Path along the Salzach. Northbound, the Tauern Cycle Path travels through the peaceful river pastures of Salzach and Inn. There, you will pass along the old Boatman Market Town of Oberndorf, the Gothic Town of Braunau, 1000-years old Obernberg, the Canons Regular of St. Augustine at Reichersberg, the Baroque Town of Schärding, Wernstein Catsle, and - finally - Passau, the historic city of three rivers.
