The Enns Cycle Path is the latest addition to the network of river cycling trails in Austria and is definitely a trip of a lifetime. The route follows the Enns River through the spectacular scenery of the three Austrian Provinces Salzburg, Styria and Upper Austria and winds across five scenic regions (Salzburg Sports World, Schladming-Dachstein-Region, Grimming Mountain, Gesäuse Nature Region and Kalkalpen National Park). You’ll experience spectacular mountain scenery, wild and romantic valleys, waterfalls, and plenty of enchanting villages and historic towns. The delightful ride travels through areas of awesome natural beauty with views of soaring mountains on each side. An Unforgettable Adventure... This trip visits hilly terrain and has some challenging climbs for intermediate cyclists who want to take in some of the most dramatic natural beauty of Austria. Those who prefer it somewhat more demanding can experience great cycling through picturesque side valleys. You get top-class treatment throughout the trip — the best places to stay, meals fit for a king, lockable bicycle storages and you can be busy every minute or opt for quiet down time. And those wanting to burn extra energy will find direct access to the Danube Cycle Path, Europe’s most popular cycling trail, and to the Mur Cycle Path, traveling to Radkersburg in Southern Styria. ... Across the World of Mountains, Rivers & Lakes The Enns Cycle Path departs in Salzburg Province’s Flachau-Winkel, on foot of Niedere Tauern Mountains and 1,200 meters above sea level. Here you’ll see meadows of wildflowers in bloom, crystal-clear streams and lakes, and vistas of evergreen forest with lofty mountains in the background. As the journey continues, you’ll appreciate the views of the light, rugged stonewall of Dachstein Mountain soaring on the left and the darker, crystalline rock formations of Niedere Tauern Mountains rising on the right. Cycling past Altenmarkt and Radstadt you’ll reach the medieval mountain town of Schladming, Schladming-Dachstein-Region’s cycling capital. This is where the narrow cycle path widens. Passing along lofty Grimming Mountains the route winds along romantic Trautenfels Castle and the Benedictine Abbey of Admont to the entrance of „Gesäuse“ Gorge, the most spectacular stretch of the Enns River. The River has formed the Gesäuse Gorge when it carved its way through the precipitous cliffs of the Ennstal Alps. An outstandingly attractive alternative to the Enns Valley Route is the trip over Buchau Saddle, passing along Admont, Hieflau, Altenmarkt and Weyer and meandering across the wild and romantic Reichraming Valley draped in evergreen forests. In St. Gallen you are strongly recommended to visit the local Water Theme Park. Between Altenmarkt and Großraming you can take in Kalkalpen National Park along the way – a dramatic countryside where you won’t encounter cars for miles. Between the charming merchant’s town of Steyr and Upper Austria’s oldest town of Enns, the Enns River divides the Austrian Provinces of Upper and Lower Austria.
