Across Mysterious Mühlviertel Grenzlandweg
North of the Danube there’s a mysterious place of awesome natural beauty to discover, Upper Austria's Muehlviertel. Rolling plains, densely wooded highlands and lush meadows are interspersed with rocks of natural granite. For the explorer in anyone, the Grenzland Cycle Path is a great opportunity to experience the natural beauty of this scenic area.

TARGET: Neustift/Upper Austria or Arbesbach/Lower Austria
LENGTH: 188 km
DIFFERENCE IN ALTITUDE: Kramesau-Liebenau (highest point): 700m, many ups and downs as the path meanders through gently rolling foothills.
TRAIL: The Grenzland Cycle Path follows lightly-trafficked streets which are almost completely paved.
At Liebenau, the cycle path joins the R32 Muehlviertel Cycle Path, taking you to the Danube Cycle Path at Grein.
WAYMARKING: Green-white signs saying "Grenzlandradweg" - R5.

From the Power Station at Ranna, the trail follows the border to Bavaria, Germany and Czech Republic, taking you along Kollerschlag, Ulrichsberg, Aigen-Schlägl, Bad Leonfelden, Reichenthal and Liebenau to Lower Austria. For the explorer in anyone, the 226 kilometers long Grenzland Cycle Path is a great opportunity to experience the natural beauty of this scenic area. On fine days, there are uninterrupted panoramic views of the Alps and beyond. The landscape between Kramesau in Danube Valley and Neustift follows the German border and presents itself with densely wooded hills and lovely valleys. The town of Schlägl is home to the Abbey of the Premonstratensian Canon with its romantic crypt and world famous library, known as the jewel of Mühlviertel Region. In the Spa Resort of Bad Leonfelden, the healing powers of mud baths, rich in iron and minerals, have long been exploited for medical benefits. Local sights and attractions include the Schwedenschanze, the Profaned Hospital Church and the School Museum. In the Museum Resort of Windhaag near Freistadt, famous Austrian composer Anton Bruckner has worked as a teacher. You can visit the Brucknerstüberl parlor in the old schoolhouse. And the village of Sandl is the hub of rural verre églomisé pictures.
