The cycle trail for pilgrims and families

The Traisen Valley Cycle Trail is one of the few pilgrimage cycle trails in Austria. This leisurely pilgrimage on two wheels follows the gentle flow of the river and finishes at one of Central Europe’s most significant place of pilgrimage. There are also a huge number of experiences directly on the trail that will be loved by young and old – it’s a cycle tour for the whole family!

The start is dominated by rolling hills and vineyards. The trail passes the majestic abbey of Stift Göttweig and the abbey of Stift Herzogenburg, home to the Augustinian Canons, onward to St. Pölten, the state capital of Lower Austria.

You won’t fail to be impressed by the magnificent baroque houses and extraordinary old buildings, as well as the town’s modern architecture. The Seenerlebnis, which is in the north of St. Pölten, but directly on the cycle trail, is the ideal spot to take a break, relax, swim and enjoy the other leisure facilities. The next part of the trail features a number of tempting excursion destinations, passes the abbey of Stift Lilienfeld and enters the imposing world of the Mostviertler Alps.

The ultimate goal of this unique pilgrim cycle trail is Mariazell Basilica. The enchanting Mariazellbahn railways, the Traisentalbahn railway and the Radtramper-Bus offer attractive alternatives to the more challenging sections. There are also three sections of the Traisen Valley Cycle Trail that are ideal for families with small children.
